Biscotti 101

Biscotti are a traditional Italian cookie, with a rich history, originating in Roman times.  The word biscotti is derived from the Latin biscoctus, (twice baked.)  The dough is first formed into logs, then baked, cooled and sliced; the slices are then baked again.  The result is a crunchy flavorful cookie that can withstand being dunked in a warm cup of coffee or tea.

Here at Dolci di Maria, we hand make our biscotti using the traditional technique.  Each cookie is unique, and for this reason, you might find that some biscotti are of differing sizes and shapes, though we promise all are equally delicious.

We make three flavors of biscotti:  our Classic flavor, which contains- Anise, a mild, licorice flavoring used in the liquor Anisette, Chocolate Chocolate Chip, and Vanilla Chocolate Chip, both of which contain a gracious helping of dark chocolate chunks. The Anise flavor is a nod to our Italian roots, as it is a traditional flavoring in Italian desserts. For a delicious and authentic pairing, try our Classic Biscotti with a glass of red wine!
